Congratulations to the University of Glasgow for their involvement in two of the five quantum technology hubs announced as part of the £1 billion, UK National Quantum Technologies Programme. Professor Douglas Paul, of the James Watt School of Engineering, with the Quantum Enabled Position, Navigation and Timing (QEPNT) hub and Professor Miles Padgett, of the School of Physics & Astronomy, with the Quantum Sensing, Imaging and Timing (QuSIT) hub.
The quantum hubs aim to match innovative quantum technologies with real-world applications. Mr Peter Kyle, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, when announcing the hubs in July, said, “We want to see a future where cutting-edge science improves everyday lives. These hubs will bridge the gap between brilliant ideas and practical solutions. They will not only transform sectors like healthcare and security, but also create a culture of accelerated innovation that helps to grow our economy.”
The hub, which received £106 million of government investment and more than £54 million of collaborative, industry funding will target applications in healthcare, computing, national security and critical infrastructure markets. We look forward to continuing our work with the University of Glasgow, supplying III-V epitaxial structures for quantum applications.
